"Delirium" pgs. 13-30

Predict what will happen next in the book...

Since Lena's procedure was postponed by a herd of cows stampeding through the exam room, her procedure has been postponed. She also has now officially met the boy who let the stampede in, which she finds out actually works as a guard to the building. I think that he is living a dual life as a wild pretending to be cured. I also think that Lena is going to fall in love with Alex, if she hasn't already. Once she falls in love with him I think she will have second thoughts about the re-scheduled procedure. It's getting pretty interesting!

"Delirium" pgs. 1-12 (Chapters 1 & 2) Dystopian Literature

This reminds me of...

This book is very similar to The Hunger Games trilogy and the Divergent series. I would most definitely include this book in my classroom library solely on that similarity. The stories are similar because it's about a post-apocalyptic America where people are segregated into different factions. The Hunger Games had different districts, the Divergent series had different kinds of people divided and in Delirium people are divided by those who are capable of loving and those who are not. Due to the fact that The Hunger Games and the Divergent series were very popular amongst adolescents, I would add this to my collection.
Another attribute to this book is that it is post-apocalyptic, which caters to our guy readers, but it also is about banning love, which is a popular topic for our girl readers. I would say that it would be more relatable for girl readers to experience this novel because the protagonist is a female, however I wouldn't doubt that a guy would pick this book up and read it. There are other qualities about the book that lend itself more to a female readership than male, such as the front cover is of a woman's face. If a guy thought she was hot, he would more than likely pick up the novel to read it. However, I believe the font will throw some of our guys off of it because it's pretty girly, especially the chapter headers. I wish that this book didn't have these qualities so that it could capture both sexes, although I think it has enough appeal that if it was suggested to a male he would give it a gander.
It also reminds me a lot of The Uglies. This is probably because the front cover mirrors that of the covers of that book series. It's of a pretty woman's face and it tackles a pretty "girly" topic: Love.
I really want to finish the book because it is very interesting thus far and I've only tackled the first 12 pages. I would highly recommend this book to any of the Hunger Games, Divergent and The Uglies fans!

"Tyrell" RR Ch. 1-3

Chapters 1-3 (pgs. 1-18)

Novisha is such a sweet girl, and she is faithful to Tyrell. However, Tyrell doesn't seem to be as faithful. That enraged me because Novisha deserves to be treated with the same kind of treatment that she has towards Tyrell. If I was Tyrell, I would have gone up to Jasmine to introduce myself and make her feel welcome. But I wouldn't have lead her on to think that there could be something romantic. I would not have sat next to her on the bus and allowed her to cry on my shoulder. I think it was crazy that he tried to keep his relationship status a secret by turning the volume down on his phone. He literally just left Novisha's, punching the wall, because he was afraid that some other guy was trying to holler at his girl. I don't understand the double-standards!

"Blood Is Thicker" RR Ch. 1

Blood Is Thicker

Chapter 1:

“Music and writing were two things he relied on when the rest of the world was a mess. In his songs, he could control everything. There was no cancer. No goodbyes. Not unless he decided it.” (Langan, 6)

This line stuck out to me because it gave me more perspective on how writing, and especially music comforts the composer. My boyfriend is a singer/songwriter, and he has told me time and time again that he trusts nothing and no one more than the music he writes and creates. I never understood how someone could trust a thing over a person, but now I have a better understanding of why that may be. Creating music is a way of controlling a piece of his life, especially when everything else is not going the way that is expected.

What is up with Savon? It's like he has a chip on his shoulder towards Hakeem, and they haven't had any contact for ten years.
